All-Ireland and Christy Ring winners for hurling/shinty internationals

The GAA has announced the squads that have been selected for the under 21 and senior hurling/shinty internationals against Scotland on Saturday next, October 18. The senior international takes place in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny at 3 pm, while the under 21 will be held in Durrow, Co Laois at 12 noon.

The team, which has been training for the tournament since last September, represents Ireland’s best ever chance of coming top of the league and progressing to the prestigious Division B. Wheelchair basketball is the largest and most organised of wheelchair sports in Ireland.

A very successful fancy dress night was held recently at Mullingar Rugby Club. This was part of the tag rugby tournament which runs until the end of July. The teams had to play their games dressed in their chosen attire. This can be difficult depending on the outfit.

Westmeath primary school indoor hurling resumes for 2010

As a follow on from the county’s indoor hurling blitzes which have ran for the last number of years, the same type of activity is again being planned for this February by the Westmeath Coaching and Games Committee in conjunction with Cumann na mBunscol Iarmhí. The format will be similar to last year, with schools playing a series of games in a blitz with morning sessions running from 10am to 12pm and new schools involved playing in the afternoon session from 12.30pm – 2.30pm. Each school will play in one blitz with the option of a ‘Finals Day’ for each of the blitz winners. Hurling and camogie competitions will be run separately with Streete Community Hall and AIT again hosting the games.

Westmeath says no to new rules

An important county board meeting took place on Wednesday night during which club delegates were asked to vote on whether to accept or reject the new rules which have been experimented with during the national leagues. The majority of delegates present were against maintaining the new rules so Westmeath will be giving them the thumbs down.
